June has been getting slowly hotter and hotter, and we’ve been doing our best to stay cool and be awesome. I’ve also been trying to lose weight (making my life significantly less awesome), but I’ve been taking my sweaty self to the park for some exercise, and that’s just beautiful.
We tested some new cocktails while watching a ton of football. We won’t talk about England. Let’s just say I have plenty of Pimm’s left, which is fine with me. Team USA is still going strong, but I have a heart attack nearly every minute of each game. I’m not mentally strong enough for sports.
I’ve been keeping myself entertained by reading The Burning Shore by Wilbur A. Smith. This book is full of tragedy and adventure all caused by a World War I. It’s got a slightly imperial point of view, but a pregnant woman’s adventures in the Kalahari are exciting, nonetheless. We also watched Gravity and Night Moves, both of which take dramatic tensions to an 11. Between that and the football, I may not live much longer.
The internet is blowing up with gorgeous food, as usual. I wish I was eating this Jalapeno Cheddar Burger with Charred Corn Mayo from Simply Scratch. The Sugar Hit is keeping cupcakes cool with gorgeous chocolate, caramel, peanut butter cupcakes inspired by everybody’s favorite candy bar. It’s hot, and it’s only going to get hotter. I have a feeling this Moroccan Mint Tea from Honestly Yum is going to be amazing both hot and cold.
Here’s what you thought was awesome. You know a good cheesy dip when you see it, especially when it’s hot and spicy. Jalapeno Popper Dip was your very favorite. You love it sweet and salty, with a little creamy and crunchy thrown in. Salted Caramel Pudding hits all the right notes. And you know that simple is awesome, and making twelve tiny sandwiches at once is super simple. You’re all a bunch of geniuses for loving Mini Ham and Cheese Sandwiches.
Emily arrives tonight. We’ll be the crazy parents who get to the airport way to early because they’re so dang excited. We’re ready to start checking things off our bucket list and making July awesome.
