Awesome in March

Awesome in March

To be honest, my friends, March hasn’t been that awesome. Having two wires coming out of your little finger is more restrictive than you might imagine. The wires should come out in about a week and a half, but my finger will be in a splint until at least the 1st of May. I realize that a broken finger is no great tragedy and that there are people struggling with much more than this. Injuries and poor health get me down, and I haven’t yet figured out how to stop that.

We did manage to get out and do a few things this month. We celebrated our 8th anniversary by getting into our wedding clothes and going out for pizza at Pizza East. We drank Toffee White Russians and toasted my mom’s birthday at what we thought was The Duchess but was actually in the process of becoming Palais. We hope to get back there soon and try out the new menu.

We also finally managed to eat some really good Eggs Benedict at Hutcheson’s. I don’t think we’d be able to afford to eat there any other time of day, and while the brunch menu is a bit pricey, it’s not outrageous, and the quality definitely matches the price.

We also saw Captain Marvel and had a lot of fun. I liked that they never made any comment about her being a woman (apart from in her past human life), her appearance was never an issue, and she never had to use sex to get what she wanted. I also loved the 90s music and her simple grunge look. Oh how I wished I could look that effortlessly good in jeans and a t-shirt. I’m sure I’ll be taking a picture of Brie Larson with me the next time I get my hair done. But beyond that, it was a really fun super hero movie, made all the more brilliant by the presence of Samuel L. Jackson. Go see it. Take all the girls.

Here’s what I want to eat this month. If I could wake up to this Shakshuka Chilaquiles, I think I would be happy all day.

I’ve loved cornbread since childhood, and this Polenta Cornbread looks absolutely beautiful.

This Oatmeal Cream Pie Cake looks like it might make all my texture dreams come true.

Your favorite dishes this month were Passion Fruit Green Tea, Parmesan Fried Gnocchi, and Mint Brownies. You guys are geniuses.

April is going to be rough. Let’s find some beautiful moments, friends. Be awesome.
