My birthday was earlier this week, so that meant I got to eat wherever I wanted for dinner. I didn’t even have to think about it. I knew right away I wanted to go to Cheeseburger in Paradise in Waikiki.
They definitely serve the best burger on the island. At least the best burger I’ve tried so far. I order the royal ali’i burger, which is topped off with cheese, a bunch of bacon, and a fried egg. I love that they don’t overcook the egg so that there’s some runny yolk action. It’s a mess to eat, but it’s so satisfying. The actual burger is thick and juicy, and I’ve never managed to finish it. It’s so very very awesome.
My favorite cocktail is the Hawaiian sunburn which basically tastes like melted raspberry sorbet. It’s not too strong and plenty sweet, which is my perfect idea of a fun cocktail.
Cheeseburger in Paradise has a bit of a kitschy feel. It’s definitely relaxed and fun, but there are also souvenir glasses and the servers wear “grass” skirts, which are actually plastic. Just embrace the touristy vibe and enjoy your awesome cheeseburger. If you get a table near the front, you’ll have an excellent view of the beach.
The only major drawback of Cheeseburger in Paradise is the price. It’s an awesome burger, and it’s definitely worth the it, but if you order a burger and a cocktail it’s gonna be more than $20. And fries are extra if you want those. It’s a special occasion, celebratory, screw the budget, couple times a year kinda place. But what a great way to celebrate.
We’ve tried the location on Kalakaua as well as Cheeseburger Beachwalk, and they were both excellent. If you want an out of this world cheeseburger and you aren’t worried about the price, do not miss out on Cheeseburger in Paradise.
