We enjoyed a lovely little happy hour recently with plenty of great food and three pints between us, all while sitting outside and enjoying the sunshine. We did all this within walking distance from our house and for around $30 with tax and tip. Tropics Tap House is a place I have a feeling we’ll be seeing a lot more of.
They have about a bajillion beers that change regularly. You can find all sorts of craft and seasonal beers, if that’s your thing, or they have Angry Orchard on tap. They also have some really creative cocktails, but I was trying not to spend all my money this time around.
Their happy hour is daily from 3:00 to 6:00 with a different beer on special every day. They also have discounted well drinks and house wine. The best part of happy hour, though, is the food. They do fancy pub food here, with a variety of sliders and pizzas, along with daily specials. At happy hour, classic sliders, cheese pizza, and enormous potato wedges are all discounted. Um. . . we tried them all.
Seriously, these potato wedges are huge. They’re crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, and get served with some fancy gourmet ketchup. I didn’t know a potato wedge could have so much flavor.
The cheese pizza was tasty, and the crust was buttery and light. It’s perfect with a cold cider. I wish I could have eaten a whole lot more, but I don’t think Geoff wanted to bring me home in a wheelbarrow.
The sliders are where it’s at, kids. At $2 a piece, you could easily make a feast of them. They’re juicy and delicious. I’m sort of in love with this place.
The service was great, and early in the evening on a weekday, it’s pretty quiet in there. Stop by on a Friday night, and you will probably get to hear some outstanding live music.
Happy hour at Tropics Tap House is definitely the way to go if money is tight. Regular price can get a little out of hand. But if money is no object, then go and try everything. It’s a great place to experiment and try something new. Since this is only a fifteen minute walk from our house, you can bet we’ll be there often. Maybe we’ll see you there.
