I used to be so spoiled living a mile outside a major tourist area where people want to spend every day brunching their hearts out. I didn’t realize how good I had it until I moved to the land of the full Scottish breakfast. Guys, I can’t do that much pork in one go. I mean, I love bacon, but it’s just not what I look forward to when I go out for breakfast.
Luckily, we found Avenue Coffee in the West End of Glasgow. In addition to a more traditional breakfast, they also have some lovely baked egg options, as well as pastries and what I’m sure is amazing coffee.
I got a fresh berry lemonade that was delightful. I’ve also had their chai latte, and it was awesome.
This time around, I ordered the French toast with bacon. It was crisp on the outside and creamy on the inside. I only wish there had been more maple syrup, but I think that’s an American thing.
Geoff got their version of a Scottish breakfast and absolutely loved it. It included Stornoway black pudding, a potato scone, both regular and chorizo sausage, and one of their lovely baked eggs.
This place can be a bit crowded as it’s quite small and very popular. I recommend going early if you can, otherwise, you might end up squished upstairs on the mezzanine as we did on this day.
I think Avenue Coffee would also be a great place for an afternoon treat. I’ll definitely be going back.
