Be Awesome: Dream Big

Be Awesome: Dream Big

Be Awesome: Dream Big

Sometimes the world is just too much. Life becomes chaotic and you can barely see five minutes ahead. Even when you have time to slow down, you suddenly discover you’ve forgotten how. Everything moves forward so relentlessly, you forget to stop and enjoy it. Sometimes there’s so little to look forward to, you’re afraid to look up.

It’s time to stop and take a deep breath and gaze deep into the future. It’s frightening and exciting all at once to think about what could be, the endless possibilities. Sometimes I’m afraid to speak my dreams out loud. It’s a little less heartbreaking that way when they don’t come true. But I’ve learned we must be bold if we want things to change. What’s bolder than publishing some of our hopes and dreams on the internet? Dive in.

My husband’s dreams are often the most frightening and the most inspiring. He’s not afraid to change everything and try something he’s never done before. It’s one of the things I love about him. His latest scheme is to move to Portland, buy an acre, and build his own house. It’s full of risk. So many things could go wrong. What could be more exciting?

I’ve wanted to live in Europe for as long as I can remember. We’re currently dreaming of Sweden. What we would do there, I have no idea, but I know it would be beautiful.

The one dream I think we may be likely to accomplish is taking an extended trip around Europe & North Africa. If we’re careful with our money, we may be able to save enough to take two months living on trains, taking in the world. I’ve dreamed of this forever.

Of course, my biggest dream is to figure out this blogging game and make it my job. As crazy as my husband’s schemes are, it’s this dream that seems the most impossible. To have the freedom to make a living using my own creativity is so alluring, but seems so hopelessly out of reach. I’m just crazy enough to keep working on it.

My life is truly awesome, and I can’t even begin to count the things I am grateful for. That doesn’t mean I’ll ever stop dreaming and hoping for something beautiful. Life should be filled with adventures. And though we can never tell where it will take us, it can’t hurt to dream. I’m open to whatever new adventures the universe has to offer. Get on board.

Awesome in July

Awesome in July

I hate that July is ending. It means we’ll be sending Emily back to her other home in a matter of days. This, my friends, is my very least favorite. Though I may have learned to control my emotions better, saying goodbye at the airport never gets any easier. But as hard as that day will be, at least we have some truly awesome memories from this summer.

We checked a million things off of our summer bucket list, including kayaking, going to a fair, swimming in a tidepool, and having a bbq. We ate at Eat the Street, and drank massive amounts of bubble tea. We ate out a million times, particularly during the week and a half we were sans fridge. We went to The Counter, Cafe Kaila, Sweet E’s, and Hula Grill, just to name a few. We may have splurged a bit this month and gone over our budget. August will just have to be a bit more austere.

  Em at The Counter

The internet was exploding with summer food, and I particularly fell in love with the Hot Fudge Brownie and Double Scooped Ice Cream Sundae High Hat Cupcakes in a Waffle Cone from Half Baked Harvest. The name has to be that long because there are that many good things going on. It’s ridiculous. This Buttermilk French Toast from Simply Scratch is perfection, and these Brownie Ice Cream Sandwiches from Smitten Kitchen are giving me all sorts of ideas.

I read Zone One by Colson Whitehead. It’s an unusual take on the zombie apocalypse theme. If you’re interested in the story of the human condition and/or dead people who continue to walk around and try to eat other living people, you should definitely check out this book. It’s beautifully written.

We also tried out some geocaching, and since we’re into taking long walks through the city, this is pretty much our ideal diversion. It’s super nerdy, and I’m fine with that. Have you tried this yet? Leave a comment, and let me know about the cool caches you’ve found.

Sausage Egg & Cheese Biscuit with Apple Butter from Awesome on 20

You loved Easy Peanut Butter Hummus, because easy and hummus. You’d have to be a fool not to love something so simple and so delicious. Equally awesome was the Sausage, Egg, and Cheese Biscuit with Apple Butter because everybody likes their breakfast Southern style. Mostly we’re all just trying to stay cool this summer. DIY Air Conditioner is winning. I’ve really missed using ours since the freezer has been broken.

em everywhere

Even though it’s ridiculously hot, especially without cold drinks, July is my favorite month because I get to spend it with my two very favorite humans. It doesn’t matter how much money you have in your wallet when you’re with the people you love. Go hug someone and tell them their awesome.
