I’m learning that the rumors you hear about Europeans not putting ice in their drinks is sort of true. It’s not that it’s impossible to get a drink with ice, it’s quite easy actually, but it’s definitely not as common as the U.S. It’s not like going to Sonic and getting a large vanilla root beer loaded up with perfectly crunchy ice.
The most annoying thing is that it’s really tricky to make ice. My little Euro-fridge has a freezer at the bottom that consists of two deep but narrow drawers for all my frozen foods. It’s perfectly fine for peas and garlic bread, but it’s really tricky to stack ice cube trays in there. So maybe it’s just getting ice in your drink at home that’s a pain in the ass.
I used up all my ice to make this Vodka Lime Slush for you. It’s maybe not as slushy as you could make it with ice in the door, but it’s still pretty awesome. This drink is pretty sweet, but also rather potent, so be careful. There are more dangers here than just brain freeze.
You’ll need lime vodka and triple sec or another orange liqueur for this. You’ll also need some lime juice, but I won’t tell anyone if it comes from a plastic lime. That doesn’t bother me at all.
Let’s be grown ups who act like children and drink boozy slurpees while watching Mad Men on a Thursday afternoon. Make a Vodka Lime Slush and be awesome.
- 10 ice cubes or more (depending on how icy you like your slush)
- 2 ounces lime vodka
- 1 ounce simple syrup
- 1 ounce triple sec
- 1 ounce lime juice
- Lime wedges, optional
- Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until the ice is broken into fine pieces. Pour into a glass, add a straw and a lime wedge, and try not to get brain freeze.
