The autumn equinox is a season of harvest and abundance. I've got 13 herbs for Mabon to help you give thanks for all your magical blessings.

13 Herbs for Mabon (with mushrooms , plants, and candles on a bench)

Mabon arrives at the autumn equinox as the sun enters Libra. This is a day of balance and harmony, as well as a festival of abundance and gratitude. The second of three harvest sabbats, Mabon is also sometimes known as the witch's thanksgiving. You don't have to have a feast at this time of year, but I'm not sure why you wouldn't.

With this abundance comes a beautiful opportunity to work with plants, herbs, botanicals, roots, and resins in your witchcraft. Whether you're creating a bountiful altar or crafting a spell jar for gratitude, these herbs for Mabon will help you heighten your magick.

    Herbs for Mabon

Many of the herbs associated with the autumn equinox are agricultural. This makes sense as this is a busy season of collecting and preserving crops to keep us sustained through the winter. You can use fresh or dried plants, essential oils, leaves, nuts, seeds, or whatever representation of the plant you wish. This includes the juice as well as beer or spirits made from some of these plants. Get creative in your usage. And always consult a professional if you plan to ingest any herbs or plants that aren't commonly known to be edible.

    • Apple - A ubiquitous symbol of autumn, these juicy fruits hold the energy of love, lust, fertility, and wisdom.

    • Blackberry - Associated with the underworld and death, these barries can call in abundance and protection.
    • Buckwheat - Protect yourself from negativity, poverty, and evil while also attraction money and wealth with this grain.
    • Chicory - This versatile edible plant can help you remove obstacles from your path.
    • Corn - Bring big abundance energy and celebrate the sun and the element of fire.
    • Hazel - Known for bestowing wisdom, hazel also brings inspiration and protection.
    • Myrrh - Often burned as a resin, myrrh is used for love, fertility, and regeneration.
    • Parsley - A plant of prosperity, this herb is also used for ancestral knowledge and connection to the dead.
    • Pumpkin - These gourds bring prosperity, protection, and long-lasting magick.
    • Field Poppy - These flowers bring luck, money, and love to your Mabon celebration.
    • Smallage - Also known as wild celery, this plant brings victory and enhances psychic powers and underworld journeys.
    • Vine - This strong and resilient plant can help you keep your ego in check.
