So what was awesome in July? How about the return of travel, going to the movies, and the Olympics? Life is starting to feel a bit more normal, and I'm into it.
July has seemed to stretch on forever. It seems like months ago that we finally took our first out of town trip to visit family down in England. We stayed at the lovely Dunkenhalgh Hotel, and I even got a massage at the spa. It was a little bit indulgent, but after a year and a half stuck in the house, it was totally worth it.
We also took a daytrip to birdwatch and walk on the beach in Ayr. It was lovely to have my feet in the sea again. I collected a few shells for my altar and ate an ice cream cone. Perfect day.
We also went back to the movies for the first time since lockdown. We saw Black Widow, and it was definitely awesome. Before that, we went back to one of my favorite restaurants, BrewDog in Merchant City. They have my favorite Buffalo Chicken Burger, and it was surprisingly easy to book an outdoor table in the middle of a heatwave.
But for the rest of the month, I'l be parked on my couch watching the Olympics. As I write, it's only day one. Should I even confess how many times I got choked up during the opening ceremonies? Imperfect as it is, I've always seen the Olympics as a true symbol of unity and excellence. Even though it's a competition, I don't particularly care who wins, and I can just feel the pride pouring from every participant. I love it.
Awesome Internet Food
I don't actually own a grill because I live in a fourth floor apartment, but if I did have a grill and a backyard, I would for sure be making chicken skewers flavored with this Lime Chicken Marinade from Isabel Eats. We should totally be making tacos with that, right?
When it's safe to turn on the oven again, I for sure want to try these Loaded Crispy Smashed Potatoes from The Candid Appetite.
These Honey Donuts from Buttermilk by Sam look soft and dreamy. I definitely want to sink my teeth into one of those chocolate-topped babies.
Your favorite posts this month were Homemade Chocolate Pudding for Two, Whipped Ricotta, and a Vodka Lime Slush. It's hot and you want to stay awesome in July. I totally get it.
We're coming back to life. We're both fully vaccinated in this house, so we'll definitely start to get out more. The question is, will be make normal better this time around? Time will tell. Let's make it awesome.
