    BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger with text

I know some people who really hate foods that combine sweet and savoury flavors. As a certified sweet tooth, it will surprise no one that a hint of sweetness only elevates the experience for me, most of the time. Throw a hint of fiery spice into that sweet and savoury mash up, and I'm even happier. But then, I prefer most things in life to be complex and multi-layered.

This is possibly one of the reasons why I chose the path of the witch rather than a more traditional religious route, or even a secular path. For me, it's all a bit one note. This is in no way a negative reflection on other traditions, but more a reflection of the fact that I always need to make things overly complicated. With witchcraft, I get to weave together so many different concepts without any outside guidance. It's nuanced and complex, and I love it that way.

What makes these BBQ Bacon Cheeseburgers so awesome?

Barbecue sauce brings the perfect blend of savoury, sweet and spicy to your burger game. It's one of my very favorite toppings. These burgers are both flavored and topped with it. Throw in salty, smoky, crispy bacon, and we're creating a serious flavor train. Layer in smooth sharp cheddar cheese and put the whole thing between a soft brioche bun, and you're in burger heaven.

Whether it's a backyard cookout or a simple family dinner, you pair these with some potato salad and onions rings, and you've got a real feast on your hands. Add lettuce, tomato, onion, or whatever other toppings you love to make it the perfect BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger for you.

    Make it magical

Barbecue sauce is a great ingredient for a multi-purpose spell. Because if its flavor complexity, you can use it to call in a multi-faceted intention. I think it would be great for a love spell where you're wanting to entice someone with sweetness that leads to a burst of passion but also creates a deep and lasting connection. Not every kitchen spell need to be made from scratch. Be thoughtful about what you're working with. It's your intention that creates the magick.

    Components for BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger

    Ingredients

Here's everything you'll need to make these burgers. The full details are in the recipe card below.

    • 15% fat ground beef - You can handle a little more fat if you're on a budget, but don't try to be a health hero and go leaner unless you're willing to also sacrifice flavor.
    • Salt
    • Pepper
    • Barbecue sauce - use your favorite brand
    • Bacon - streaky and smoked
    • Cheddar cheese - I like it nice and sharp for this
    • Hamburger buns - brioche buns are my preference
    • Mayonnaise
    • Other toppings of your choice - lettuce, tomato, onion, etc.

Tips for making BBQ Bacon Cheeseburgers

You can read all about my homemade hamburger manifesto if you want my general tips for creating great burgers. For these burgers, you want to start out by cooking your bacon. I like to chop it first and have small pieces of bacon. This is how they do it at 5 Guys, and it stop you pulling out an entire slice of bacon in one bite. Make it nice and crisp for added texture.

When it comes to the burgers, you'll season these simply with salt and pepper, then mix in some barbecue sauce as well. I like to shape these to be fatter, juicier burgers rather than a thin, smash burger style patty. Cook them to your desired wellness. To get your cheese nice and melty, add it to the patty during the last 2 minutes of cooking.

To build your burger, spread some mayo onto both sides of your bun to help slow down any sogginess, then put your bacon bits on the bottom, followed by your burger patty and cheese. Then make sure you give yourself a good slathering of extra barbecue sauce. If it's not dripping a bit, you might not be doing it right. Add any of your other favorite toppings and dig in.

    • Method: Stovetop
    • Cuisine: American

    Ingredients

    Scale
    • 4 slices streaky smoked bacon, chopped
    • 1 pound (500 grams) ground beef, 15% fat
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • ½ teaspoon pepper
    • 2 tablespoons barbecue sauce, plus more for topping
    • 4 burger buns
    • 4 slices cheddar cheese
    • ¼ cup mayonnaise
    • Other toppings of your choice

    Instructions

    1. In a cast iron skillet, cook your chopped bacon until crispy. Remove to a paper towel lined plate and drain off any excess grease.
    2. While your bacon is cooking, mix up your burger patties. Add ground beef, salt, pepper, and barbecue sauce to a mixing bowl and combine with your hands. Divide the mixture into 4 and form into patties.
    3. In the same skillet you cooked your bacon, cook your burgers over medium heat for about 3-4 minutes per side. Only turn your burgers once. Add the cheese about 2 minutes before removing them from the pan if you want it nice and melty.
    4. Remove your patties to a paper towel lined plate to drain off some of the grease.
    5. Build your burgers. Spread mayonnaise onto each side of your bun, then add plenty of bacon. Place your burger and cheese on top, then add extra barbecue sauce, plus your favorite toppings.
