This simple and sweet Blackcurrant & Lemon Cocktail is a gorgeous summer drink. If you've got a bottle of Creme de Cassis in your cabinet, dust it off for this lovely libation. It's gonna be awesome.
So now that I have patrons, I actually have to deliver the content for them. When I first set up my patreon, I thought we'd be lucky to get a couple of people to pledge £1 a month, and I'd never actually have to go live on Facebook. I've never done it before, and it's a bit terrifying.
I'm thinking we should definitely make a cocktail because I'm going to need a drink. I'm fully in favor of the idea that just a little bit of alcohol can be really helpful. I recognize that for many people, it can quickly tip over into an unhealthy habit, but for me, it's the perfect medicine for the occasional bit of social anxiety. Just one drink to make you care a little bit less about sounding like an idiot. It's magic.
What makes this blackcurrant & lemon cocktail so awesome?
This Blackcurrant & Lemon Cocktail is definitely bright and summery. I'm a sucker for a pretty layered cocktail, and this one is absolutely gorgeous. Perhaps my patrons can see me making it on Facebook. You should definitely make it the next time you want something simple and sweet with a gorgeous purple ombre.
Blackcurrant is sort of a deep, dark fruity flavor, and lemon is bright and light, so they're the perfect foil. If you want to keep this low-alcohol, you could just leave out the vodka. If you're looking for a bit more of a punch, though, go with it.
How to make a Blackcurrant & Lemon Cocktail
I don't do complicated cocktails, kids. I don't have the patience. Start with a glass of ice, and add a shot of blackcurrant liqueur, aka creme de cassis. It's thicker so it will stay at the bottom. Then add the vodka and lemon juice. Finally, top up your glass with soda water or club soda.
If you're using fresh lemon juice, add a lemon slice or wedge to your glass. If you don't have fresh lemons on hand, but you always have a bottle of lemon juice in your fridge, you can use that, and everything will be fine. Do the best you can with what you have. Don't stress yourself out about it.
FAQ
If you can't find creme de cassis anywhere, any berry liqueur would probably also taste great. Personally I'd go for Chambord, which is usually pretty easy to find.
Magickal properties of blackcurrant
Blackcurrant can apparently help you learn to forgive and be less judgmental in its role as an angelic fragrance. It also helps in fearful situations and is recommended to those on a spiritual quest. It can aid in healing from afar and opening the third eye. Cassis itself was originally produced by 16th century monks who used it to cure snakebites and wretchedness. (Source: Herbal Picnic)
Whether you need a bit of courage or a bit of joy, this Blackcurrang & Lemon Cocktail will get it done. It's gonna be awesome.
