It’s been a long time since we got a burger together, friends. How about we grab a juicy burger and a drink in a laid back place with a view of Waikiki Beach? Sounds good, right? Let’s go to Lulu’s Waikiki.
Lulu’s is located at the far end of Waikiki, right across the street from Kapiolani Park. It has tables around the whole edge of the restaurant with open windows looking out onto the park and the beach. It’s not uncommon to see people walk in straight off the beach. It’s got a real surfer vibe. There’s one slight hitch if you want to have the maximum burger options. You have to come during lunch (11-5). You can still get a burger during dinner, but your options are significantly reduced.
I got the classic burger which is served on both menus. It’s juicy and flavorful. The bun is lightly toasted so it doesn’t get soggy, and the fries are super crispy. This burger is also on the massive side, so you’ll definitely leave full.
I’m sure no one is surprised that Geoff ordered the Volcano burger with spicy volcano fries. The burger is loaded up with jalapenos and pepperjack, and the fries are doused in a spice blend that’s pretty dang hot. They’ll have you feeling torn between licking your fingers and chugging your beer.
Lulu’s also has Angry Orchard on tap for us non-beer drinkers, and if burgers aren’t your thing, I also recommend the kalua pig quesadilla.
This place can get crowded, but the service is usually prompt and friendly. There are plenty of TV screens if you want to catch the game. (We watched the US v Portugal World Cup game here.) It’s just a very chill place to hang out, have a drink and eat some food with friends. Laugh as loud as you like. It’s gonna be awesome.
