This Cherry Ginger Mint Cocktail is a bit sweet, a bit tart, and so refreshing with a burst of fresh mint flavor. It's perfect for summer sipping.
The more you grow your kitchen witch practice, the easier it becomes to improvise. I love to follow a recipe. I love the magic of taking words on paper (or a screen) and turning it into something delicious that absolutely delights all my senses. Likewise, I've had some great success following spells from my favorite witchcraft books. And every attempt adds to my knowledge and my confidence.
But the more I craft both food and spells, the more I learn to trust my own intuition when it comes to what flavors and energies will blend perfectly together. I can just browse my pantry and my fridge and pull things together. It's always an experiment, so it doesn'talways come out perfectly, but more often than not, I've created something that I absolutely love.
What makes this Cherry Ginger Mint Cocktail so awesome?
This Cherry Ginger Mint Cocktail was born of just such an experiment. I had some leftover ingredients from other recipes that needed to be used up, so I chucked some ice in a glass and started mixing. It turns out this was the exact drink my summer needed. It's fruity and refreshing and tastes just as great with both alcoholic and non-alcoholic gin.
It's made with cherry juice, ginger ale, gin, and homemade mint simple syrup. Of course, you could use store bought mint syrup, but it's ridiculously easy to make yourself if you have fresh mint leftover from another recipe. And you can easily make this one glass at a time, or fill a pitcher for a summer party. You could even mix up the juice, ginger ale, and syrup, and leave the gin on the side so both kids and grown ups can enjoy this flavor combo.
Magical Properties of Cherries
There's conflicting information out on this little fruit, so follow your intuition. Some say cherries are ruled by Venus, the planet of beauty and pleasure, as well as the element of water. Other sources have them ruled by Mars and fire. Either way, they're good for creating love and romance, with strong powers of attraction as well as stimulation. So call on the planet that carries the type of love you're trying to create with your spell. (Source: The Kitchen Witch's Guide to Healing and Self-Care by Maggie Haseman)

Ingredients
Here's everything you'll need to make this drink. The full details are in the recipe card below.
- Cherry juice - I can buy this bottled at my local supermarket. If you can't find it and don't want to juice cherries, you could substitute pomegranate juice.
- Mint simple syrup - store bought or homemade will both work
- Ginger ale
- Gin - Use your favorite brand
- Ice
- Fresh cherries and mint to garnish - optional
Tips for making a Cherry Ginger Mint Cocktail
Look, we're just mixing a drink at home, so you don't need to get all fancy with it. Simply add plenty of ice to a short glass and start pouring in your ingredients. Give it a stir and start sipping.
I've given instructions for a single drink in the recipe card, but it's simple to multiply this. Simply think of it as parts rather than individual ounces. So if you were making a big portion for a party, you could use a cup measure instead of an ounce measure, and it would still be awesome.
I hope you enjoy this little improvisation as much as I did. A Cherry Ginger Mint Cocktail might just become your new favorite.
