A Cosmopolitan is a classic 90’s cocktail. It’s sweet and tart and so pink. Mix yourself this simple drink when you want to feel fancy.
I’ve lamented on several occasions the 90’s revival we seemed to be trapped in currently. I guess it just makes me feel old. There was one late 90’s pop culture trend I could just never get behind, and that’s Sex in the City. I know a lot of women my age are obsessed. I’ve tried to watch it a couple of times, and I just can’t. There’s just something about it that makes me feel slightly nauseous.
I do appreciate it for creating a surging popularity in pretty, sweet cocktails. I know there’s a huge backlash against that right now and everybody’s drinking Negronis and Manhattans and putting bitters in anything that will stay still long enough, but I’m still firmly in the sweet drinks camp. Come on over. We’re having lots of fun here.
The cosmopolitan is the classic 90’s cocktail throwback, and I’m not afraid to say I love it. There’s something about drinking from a martini glass that makes me feel girly in a way that I usually pretend to abhor. This drink is sweet but not syrupy and potent without tasting like pure alcohol.
If you order this at a bar, you’ll probably pay something ridiculous, but you can make it at home with ingredients you probably already have on your bar cart and in your fridge. And if not, they’re easily obtained. Nothing fancy here.
Hopefully I won’t get any hate mail from all you Carrie Bradshaw fans out there. Let’s talk it out over a couple of Cosmos.
