Is sport simply a friendly competition or a stand-in for tribalistic modern warfare? We discuss this dichotomy and so much more on episode 8 of The How to Be Awesome Podcast. Are you a sport lover or hater? Get in on this awesome conversation.
We proudly host our podcast with Buzzsprout.
In this episode we're taking leftover puff pastry, cheese, and some veggies and making a delicious tart. We're also talking about a soup with our three main food groups - potatoes, cheese and bacon.
This week we're talking about sport. Louise gets to talk about her hatred for toxic masculinity in football, and Renee counters with the argument that maybe sport can bring out the best in people - if we let it. We talk about racism, transphobia and sexism in sporting competitions and we answer a listener question that gets us thinking about what constitutes a sport.
Summer is obviously in full swing as Renee is letting go of getting sunburns and Louise is angry at some seagulls. We have a chat about the awesome Black Widow movie and Louise recommends the Fear Street series on Netflix.
Correction
I'd like to apologise to the beach handball players of the world. I spoke on the subject of the Norwegian team after only briefly seeing a post on social media, and I should really know better. I hadn't heard of the sport and just assumed this was an Olympics-related story. When I finally heard the full news story after recording, I learned I was wrong, and beach handball is, indeed, a totally legit sport. My opinion that women should be allowed to wear whatever they feel comfortable in remains the same. Apologies for my ignorance. To learn more, check out this report from the BBC.
