    Flame Burger with text

The principle of polarity is blowing our minds again today, kids. Isn't it odd how sometimes pleasure and pain can be found side by side? That pole bends around and joins to form a circle. I'm sure we can think of plenty of racy ways that pleasure and pain can combine, but I'm just here to talk about capsaicin.

I'm married to a man who likes to eat food so spicy that it makes him cry. Yeah, I like a bit of spice, but he's on a whole different level. They say that the pain we experience from eating chilies can actually induce a high somehow. I don't quite understand it, but it must be true. Otherwise, why would people put themselves through that agony? Pain can definitely lead to pleasure on the plate.

What makes this Flame Burger so awesome?

I made this Flame Burger for my husband who likes his food painfully spicy. I worked chili in some form or another into ever component. The beef is seasoned with an insane amount of cayenne pepper. It's topped with chili-studded cheese and dressed with a spicy fresh chili mayo. And just to gild the lily a bit more, I I brushed the brioche buns with with chili oil. Spice lovers, you're welcome.

If you've got a mixture of heat lovers in your household, it's easy enough to hold back on some of the toppings to make the burgers a bit more mild. But if you enjoy eating as an extreme sport, this is going to be the burger for you. Make this for your next backyard barbecue. It will definitely heat things up.

    Make it magical

Just like spice brings both pleasure and pain to your eating experience, it has quite a bit of duality in witchcraft as well. Chili-related ingredients such as cayenne, chili flakes, or various fresh chili peppers can be used in spellwork. Most commonly, these ingredients are used to speed up your spell. Think about how eating spicy food can give you a burst of energy and wake you up. It can do that for your manifestation process as well.

Spicy ingredients are used to banish as well. Try sprinkling some chili powder in the shoes of a guest who's overstayed their welcome. Extra spicy chilies such as habaneros can also be used in more baneful magic. They can also be used in spells for virility and passion.

Tips for making a Flame Burger

There's nothing complicated going on here. My tips for making great burgers is to handle your ground beef with care. When forming your patties, you want to make them firm enough that they don't fall apart, but if you compress them too much, you end up with that spongy texture you often find in store-bought burger patties. That's definitely not awesome.

I made my own chili mayo by simply chopping some red and green jalapenos in my food processor and mixing in some mayo. Use whatever type of chilies you can get your hands on. A mix would be lovely. You can control the heat level with your chili selection. Jalapenos were what I could get, so that's what I used.

The final hits of heat come from chili-studded cheese and brioche buns toasted with chili oil. These are just some added touches to take it right over the top.

Bring the heat to those who love it with a Flame Burger. The pain will certainly lead to pleasure. It's definitely gonna be awesome.

    • Method: Grilled
    • Cuisine: American

    Ingredients

    Units Scale
    • 1 pound ground beef
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • ½ teaspoon black pepper
    • 2-3 teaspoons cayenne pepper
    • 2 jalapenos or other chili peppers
    • ¼ cup mayonnaise
    • 4 slices cheddar with chilies or pepper jack cheese
    • 1 tablespoon chili oil
    • 4 brioche burger buns
    • Lettuce, tomato, and all your favorite burger toppings

    Instructions

    1. Add your ground beef, salt, pepper, and cayenne to a mixing bowl. Use your hands to mix this together and form into four patties.
    2. Cook your burgers in your favorite way, whether that be on the stove in a cast iron skillet or on a grill outdoors. Cook them over medium heat for about four minutes per side. Add the cheese for the last minute or two of cooking to let it melt a bit. Remove the burgers to a paper towel-lined plate to rest.
    3. To make your chili mayo, cut off the stem and roughly chop a couple of chilies of your choice. Add them to a food processor and pulse to chop. Add your mayo and pulse to mix.
    4. To toast your buns, use a pastry brush to brush some chili oil on the inside of your buns. I toast mine in the same pan I cooked by burgers in on low heat. You could do them on a cooler part of your grill or under the broiler in the oven.
    5. To assemble your burger, apply some chili mayo to both sides of your bun, add your cheese-topped burger patty, and add your favorite burger toppings. Make sure you have plenty of napkins.
