As winter approaches, it's good to have some herbs of protection in your kitchen witchcraft arsenal. We're making poultry seasoning that doubles as a protection spell for the whole family.
As the busy holiday season approaches, we'll be traveling more, visiting friends, going to parties and battling against the cold and dark through it all. I love this time of year, but it can also be exhausting both physically and spiritually. We're giving away so much energy at all these holiday gatherings. I think it's a good idea to call in a bit of spiritual protection.
This is also the time of year where you can't remember if you have poultry seasoning for your turkey, and rather than checking the back of the cupboard, you just buy a new one, only to find an almost full jar from last year that you only used once or twice. Let's do things differently this year. Clear your kitchen altar, kids. We're making our own poultry seasoning using herbs of protection that we can use throughout the season for a boost of protective energy.
Magical properties of herbs of protection
This protection herb blend has a combination of traditional protection herbs like marjoram, rosemary, and black pepper, but it's also got a bit of cleansing energy to clear away any bad vibes that might be hanging around, plus a boost of good luck and confidence to help you get out there and face the world. We don't want to scare everything away, we just want to keep out the baddies, protect ourselves from anything that might harm us, and give out as much good energy as we can. Here's what you'll need and what it can do for you.
- Sage - Ideal for banishing negative energy, also known for healing and purification
- Thyme - Calls in strength and courage to face challenges
- Marjoram - Strong protection energy as well as psychic awakening
- Rosemary - Known for protection, healing, and mental power
- Nutmeg - Draws in good fortune
- Black Pepper - Used for protection, releasing negative energy, and building inner strength and confidence

Uses for poultry seasoning
As a kitchen ingredient, this can be used beyond just your Thanksgiving or Christmas turkey. You can add it to turkey meatloaf or meatballs for a more traditional flavor. You can add it to that soup you're gonna make with all your leftover turkey meat. Or you can use it to season sausage or make a savoury bread pudding for Black Friday or Boxing Day.
I bet this would be awesome in anything with butternut squash or savoury pumpkin dishes. Pretty much anywhere you'd use sage, you can kick it up a notch with this poultry seasoning.
Magical uses for Herbs of Protection
To make this kitchen herb blend into a spell, you'll need to add your energy and intention. I suggest cleasing your sacred space in your kitchen and maybe lighting a candle to prepare yourself spiritually. As you add each ingredient, ask it to protect or help you. Call on the herb's energy to keep you and your family safe and happy. I like to talk to my ingredients as I add them, but you could do it all in your head.
You can stir or shake this blend to combine. Clockwise to bring things in and counter clockwise to release. For this blend, I'd say we're looking for a little of both. Out with the bad, in with the good. Store the herb blend in an air tight container until you're ready to use it.
Beyond culinary uses, you could also use this blend as a loose incense to burn on a charcoal disc. You could sprinkle some outside your front door to protect your home. Use it to dress a candle or add it to a spell jar or charm bag. Give this as a gift to anyone you think could use some spiritual protection.
I love making my own herb and spice blends, especially since I usually have all the individual ingredients already. These herbs of protection in this homemade poultry seasoning will see you through the holiday season and leave you feeling safe and full of good vibes.
