The scent of lemongrass is so light and uplifting, it definitelhy feels magical. Let's explore the healing properties and witchcraft uses for this fragrant herb.

Lemongrass is probably most commonly associated with Thai cuisine, which is personally not my jam, but I know many people love it. What I do love is the scent of lemongrass. It's one of my very favorite essential oils. I also think its subtle fragrance is great in drinks.

And of course, something so cleansing and bright must be magical. Let's explore how this grassy herb can make your witchcraft practice more awesome.

    Healing Properties of Lemongrass

Lemongrass has this gorgeous bright, citrusy energy that feels like summer in plant form. It's been used in traditional medicine across Asia for centuries, and once you learn what it can do for your body, you'll understand why it's such a kitchen staple.

    Digestive superhero

Lemongrass is amazing for settling an upset stomach. It works as an antispasmodic and carminative, which means it helps ease bloating, cramping, indigestion, and that uncomfortable flatulence situation nobody wants to talk about. A cup of lemongrass tea after a heavy meal can seriously help your digestion feel better.

    Fever and heat relief

When your body's running hot (whether from fever or just overheating), lemongrass acts as a diaphoretic, which means it helps relax your circulatory system and supports your body's natural response to fever and excess heat. It's like giving your body permission to cool down.

    Pain relief

The essential oil in lemongrass carries analgesic properties, making it traditionally used for headaches, muscle aches, and menstrual cramping. Whether you're dealing with a tension headache or period pain, lemongrass can help ease the discomfort.

A word of caution: Lemongrass is generally safe when used as a tea or in cooking, but if you're using the essential oil, always dilute it in a carrier oil before applying to skin. If you're pregnant or nursing, check with your healthcare provider about using lemongrass medicinally, as it may have uterine effects in concentrated forms.

Magickal Properties of Lemongrass: Gender - both
Element - air
Planets - Mercury, Moon
Chakras - throat, third eye, crown
Astrology - Gemini
Magical properties - opening, mental health, communication, spirituality, love and lust, healing, protection

    Magical Properties of Lemongrass

Lemongrass is actually grassy, so it makes sense that it's ruled by the element of air. You can also use it to call in the energy of Mercury and the moon as well as the zodiac sign Gemini. It's connected to the throat, third eye, and crown chakras. Add lemongrass to spells for cleansing, healing, and opening.

This herb is perhaps best known for love and lust spells. Add it to workings to attract a partner, heal a broken heart, of protect against bad relationships. You can also use it to increase psychic powers. It's a great third eye opener, so add it to any meditation aids you might create.

    Witchcraft Uses

As always, you are only limited by your imagination when it comes to crafting spells with lemongrass. You can use the fresh herb, the whole plant, dried herb, or the essential oil to connect with its energy. Here are a few ideas to get you started.

    • Craft a thire eye opening tea blend to sip before a meditation or divination session.
    • Add fresh lemongrass to a charm bag for its cleansing aroma.
    • Add a few drops of the essential oil to a massage oil blend for use in a love spell with a willing partner.
    • Use the essential oil or dried lemongrass to dress candles.

    Recipes for the Kitchen Witch

I personally don't use lemongrass all that much in the kitchen, and when I do, I'm drinking it. But don't let that stop you from bringing this delicious and fragrant herb into your kitchen magick, especially if you love Thai food.

I've got a couple of my own recipes here as well as some that I thought looked worth a try from other creators. I hope you find something magical to help you bring this awesome herb into your kitchen witchcraft.

    • Lime Ginger & Lemongrass Infused Water
    • Lemongrass & Coconut Soup
    • Vietnamese Lemongrass Chicken
