So yeah, you could just buy ice cream at the grocery store, and it would be good. But when you're ready to really treat yourself to the good things in life, you'll make homemade Milky Way Ice Cream in your ice cream maker. Yes, it will take a long time. Yes, you'll need to stir carefully, wait for things to chill and freeze. So what? You will manifest the most delicious treat for yourself. It will be entirely worth it.
This is the good stuff kids. With egg and heavy cream, this ice cream has a high fat content that makes it totally luscious. It's also got swirls of caramel and chunks of Milky Way candy hiding throughout. It's sweet and indulgent. If you've never made your own ice cream from scratch, you're gonna be absolutely blown away. Nothing beats it.
Magical Properties of Cream & Milk
Historically, milk was actually one of the things that could get suspected witches into a lot of trouble. It was believed that if a witch wanted to do you harm, she would make your cow dry up or spoil your milk. And when this happened for no discernable reason, unpopular women would often find themselves accused of witchcraft with dire consequences.
Of course, people also turned to magick to protect their milk and their cows or other milk-giving animals. But with the advent of pasteurization and other modern methods, this isn't of much concern to modern witches. Today, you're more likely to use milk in spells for prosperity, fertility, or nurturing. A cup of milk and honey is a common offering to spirits or the Fae.

Tips for making Milky Way Ice Cream
Okay, there's nothing difficult here, but you do need to pay attention and take your time. If making homemade ice cream was easy, we wouldn't even put up with most of that store bought stuff.
We start by heating cream and milk together until it just starts to bubble around the edge. In the meantime, you'll whisk together eggs and sugar. Then slowly drizzle in your warm milk into your eggs, whisking all the while. The idea is to raise the temperature of the eggs slowly so they don't scramble. When you've got about half of your milk whisked in, it's safe to transfer this mixture back into the pot. Then you need to stir this until it starts to thicken. Essentially, we're making custard. You can use a candy thermometer to help you know when you're getting close, but trust your intuition as well.
Then strain your mixture back into a mixing bowl. I use the same one I beat the eggs in. Using a mesh sieve here will help to remove any bits of egg that may have coagulated in the heating process. Leave this to cool for about 30 minutes before stirring in some vanilla extract. Then cover this with plastic wrap. Lay the plastic directly on the surface of the custard so it doesn't form a skin. Put this in the fridge for at least an hour. You could even do this much the day before. This is ideal if you forgot to fully freeze your ice cream churning bowl.
When everything's good and chilled, it's time to churn. Different machines will have different instructions, so follow yours. I usually let it churn for about 20 minutes before I start spooning in caramel to be mixed into the ice cream while it churns for another five minutes. When it's good and thick, transfer it from the machine to your freezer-safe container, scattering bits of Milky Way bar as you go. Let it freeze for at least four hours before scooping and eating.
Whatever it is that you desire, you're worth the effort. You're definitely worth the effort it takes to make Milky Way Ice Cream. The immense pleasure will be your reward.

Ingredients
- 2 cups double cream or heavy cream
- 1 cup whole milk
- 2 eggs
- ¾ cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 6 tablespoons caramel sauce
- 2 Milky Way bars, chilled and chopped
Instructions
- Add your cream and milk to a medium sauce pan over low heat and heat this up until you just start to see hints of bubbles around the edge, stirring occasionally.
- While your dairy is heating up, whisk your eggs in a mixing bowl for a few minutes until light and fluffy. Slowly whisk in the sugar until it's thick and creamy.
- Once your cream is hot, remove it from the heat. Temper your egg mixture by slowly drizzling some of your hot milk into the eggs while whisking the whole time. Drizzle in about a quarter cup at a time until you've mixed in at least half of your dairy. This will raise the heat on your eggs slowly so they don't start to scramble.
- Now you can safely add your egg mixture back into the pan, then place the whole thing over medium low heat. Attach your candy thermometer to the side of your pan, and heat this mixture, stirring frequently, until it reaches 170F (75C) and starts to thicken. Once you've reached a custardy consistency, remove from heat.
- To make sure we don't have any coagulated egg or weird chunks of fat from the cream ruining our perfectly smooth ice cream, pour your ice cream mixture through a fine mesh sieve into a mixing bowl. Allow this to cool on the counter for about 30 minutes, then stir in your vanilla extract.
- Cover this mixture with plastic wrap. Press it right down onto the surface of the mixture to prevent a skin from forming. Put this in the fridge for at least an hour to chill. Over night is fine.
- Add this mixture to your ice cream maker and follow your manufacturer's instructions. About five minutes before the end of churning, you can add in your caramel.
- Transfer this mixture to a freezer safe container, layering in your chopped Milky Way pieces throughout. Store your ice cream in an air tight container while it freezes for at least four hours.
