Mint is one of the most commonly used herbs in witchcraft, and it's got the power to back up its popularity. Learn how to use this resilient herb for healing and magical purposes.

Herbs in Witchcraft - Mint (with a bundle of mint on burlap)

Mint is ubiquitous, in the kitchen as well as in the world of witchcraft. With its verdant green leaves and its relentless will to live, this energizing plant can be used all over the place to raise your vibration and help make your life more awesome.

There are dozens of varieties of mint, but they all hold similar properties both medicinal and metaphysical. Trust your intuition and personal preference to help you find the type of mint that's best for you

    Healing Properties of Mint

Right off the top of my head, I know that you can use mint for focus and alertness. So whether you're popping some gum in your mouth in the afternoon to get you through your afternoon slump or diffusing peppermint essential oil to keep you focused while studying, the stimulating scent will perk up your senses to give you a burst of energy.

It's also commonly used to aid digestion. A cup of mint tea after a heavy meal can help to soothe any tummy aches or digestive issues. It can also calm nausea and is helpful for motion sickness. Keep a roller bottle with peppermint essential oil in the car if you travel with anyone who gets queasy in the back seat.

This herb also contains antimicrobial properties, so mint can help ease congestion and stimulate blood flow to help break a fever. Consider adding a pinch of dried mint to your healing tea blends.

Herbalists have often used mint topically to soothe inflammation and relieve pain. It can help with things like bug bites, muscle cramps, joint swelling, and headaches.

Magical & Spiritual Properties of Mint

Mint shows up in all sorts of spells and has a huge variety of magical properties. I love to use it for abundance, as this plant grows so quickly and prolifically. It's also well known as a plant that's hard to get rid of, so I use it in spells where I want to emphasize resiliance. It's ideal for long term money attraction.

Here are some of the magical properties and correspondences of mint:

    • Planet - Venus, Mars
    • Element - air, fire
    • Zodiac - Virgo, Aquarius
    • Gender - masculine/projective
    • Deities - Hades, Minthe
    • Chakras - solar plexus, heart
    • Magical properties - prosperity, love, joy, fertility, purification, success, clarity, cleansing, new beginnings, personal renewal, psychic protection, release, healing, decision making, inspiration, motivation

    Witchcraft Uses

Just as there are numerous metaphysical properties of mint, it's uses in spells are only limited by your imagination. Use this herb fresh or dried, or even in essential oil form to bring its magick into your life.

Here are a few ideas to get you started:

    • Keep a potted plant next to your cash register to attract abundance or bring it into a sick room to purify the air.
    • Add it to your candle spells as an oil or dried herb to supercharge their power.
    • Sip some minty tea in the morning to boost your personal energy and keep you motivated.
    • Add some to a prosperity bath (be sure any essential oils are properly dilluted).
    • Add it to a charm bag or spell jar for resilience.
    • Create a sacred oil to anoint yourself or your tools.
    • Add it to a loose incense blend to attract prosperity.
    • Treat yourself to a peppermint foot soak to absorb that resilient energy.

    Recipes for the Kitchen Witch

Mint also happens to be a flavor I love, especially paired with chocolate. Though it mostly shows up in my desserts, it can heighten savoury recipes as well and is commonly used in Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cooking.

When you eat this herb, you can feel it energizing you, so take in that energy with intention. What will you do with this boost to your vibration? Give it a purpose. That's all there is to kitchen magick.

Here are some minty recipes for you to enjoy and make magical:

    • Mint Brownies
    • Mint Limeade
    • Mint Chocolate Chip Cookies
    • Chocolate Mint Cupcakes

If you're not working with mint in your witchcraft practice, what are you waiting for? Let this easy to grow, delicious, gorgeously scented little herb start making your life more awesome today.
