A new moon tarot spread is a wonderful way to gain insight on your aligned intentions. Using your tarot deck, you can start each moon cycle with a clear vision of what you want to create and how to make it happen.
Outside of the kitchen, moon magic and tarot are two of my favorite witchcraft practices. Through Sagittarian Tarot, I have offered tarot guidance to people seeking clarity and connection, and with the Moon Magic Membership, I guide people through each moon cycle to help them stay focused in their manifestations.
Combining journaling and divination is a powerful way for you to tap into your intuition while also receiving guidance from the Universe. Your tarot cards, oracle cards, or runes can deepen your own understanding and help you consider your situation from a new point of view.
New Moon Energy
As an Aries rising with my South Node in Pisces, I love the chance to start fresh. New moon energy gives us the opportunity to work from a clean slate every month. When the moon conjuncts the sun and hides her light from our eyes, we can use the darkness to imagine the future we want to create and begin again.
This is an ideal time to sit down with your tarot deck and seek guidance on how to better align your intentions and goals. Reflect on what you most desire and why. Ask for guidance on what you may need to attract or release in order to manifest those desires. Check in and make sure that what you think you want is really what you need. Our minds can often be clouded by outside influences, mundane practialities, or a fearful ego. The cards can cut through all of that to help bring you back to divine energy, to your higher self. They are a vessel for your intuition and the Universe to communicate with you.
I always consult my tarot cards at every new moon so that I know I'm starting with a clear picture of where I need to go next.

Questions for the cards
A tarot reading is usually only as good as the questions you ask. From my experience, tarot is not the best tool for asking binary or yes/no questions. They certainly can be read that way, but with 78 possibilities, it seems like a bit of a waste when you could just ask your pendulum or even flip a coin.
I also don't use the cards to make predictions, so instead of asking when or who, I like to ask how, why, or what. The new moon is the ideal time to ask for guidance on intention setting, attraction, and progress.
Use all of these questions in a single spread or select the ones that feel most aligned to you. Lay out your cards in a straight line or as you see fit.
New Moon Tarot Spread
- What intentions would serve my highest good?
- How can I align my energy with my intention?
- What energy do I need to attract to manifest my desires?
- Where can I look for support?
- What obstacles might I face?
- What's the next right step on my manifestation path?
Of course, these questions are generic for any new moon. If you're looking for guidance that aligns with a new moon in a specific sign, be sure to check out my Moon Magic Journal Prompts with guidance for the most recent new and full moon each month.
I hope you've found this new moon tarot spread helpful. If you'd like to book a new moon tarot reading with me, I'd be honored to guide you.
