A recently received a reiki treatment , and the practitioner, who is also a psychic medium, told me I should explore working with Loki. Now I love Tom Hiddleston, even if that Loki wig makes him look a bit silly, but beyond the MCU, I'd never really thought much about him. Foxes, though, are very special to me. And trickster energy is something I enjoy playing around with.
I suppose my trickster energy leads more toward whimsy than mischief, but if I can sneak an extra awesome ingredient into a recipe or carefully plot a a course to hit up all the free days at the museums while on holiday, I feel pretty clever. I'm not opposed to taking shortcuts or getting a hook up for a discount. If I have to do things not strictly by the book to get what I want, I'm open to it. Nothing dodgy, just creative.
What makes Nutella Oatmeal so awesome?
Nutella Oatmeal feels like it has a bit of mischief to it. It's taking something relatively healthy and plain, something very old and maybe even stodgy, and turning it into something sweet and indulgent. By mixing ancient oats with modern manufactured chocolate spread, we're taking a hot breakfast to a whole new level.
If you've never made oatmeal that didn't come in a packet and go in the microwave, it's super easy. Yes, it takes 5 minutes instead of 2, but there are plenty of other things you can do in that time, and the end result is so much better. When you use rolled oats, you get a heartier texture and a thicker, richer oatmeal. Plus with the addition of Nutella, chopped hazelnuts, and maybe even a berry or two, it becomes something totally indulgent.
Magical Properties of Hazelnuts
The hazel tree and its nuts are strongly associated with wisdom. Carrying projective air energy, hazel is also tied to the Sun as well as the deities Brighid, Thor, and Apollo. It can also be used to call in luck, fertility, inspiratin, and protection. One old spell suggests that you can carry a double hazelnut in a red drawstring bag to relieve tooth pain. Ingredients
Here's everything you'll need to make this recipe. The full details are in the recipe card below
- Oats - I preferr rolled oats, but you could also use steel cut or instant. Your oatmeal will just have a slightly different texture and may take longer or shorter time to cook.
- Milk - whatever you have
- Water
- Salt
- Chocolate hazelnut spread
- Optional toppings - chopped hazelnuts, strawberries or other berries
Tips for making Nutella Oatmeal
Now that I work from home, I love making proper oatmeal rather than having to make it in the microwave of the office "kitchen." I use equal parts milk and water, but you could use all milk if you want it extra creamy. Add a pinch of salt and once it starts to bubble, add in half the amount of oats as liquid. Then all you need to do is stir it occasionally as the oats soften and thicken the liquid. It takes about 3 minutes.
Then all that's left to do is swirl in a bunch of Nutella. You could just add a little, but where's the fun in that? Sprinkle on some chopped nuts if you have them for a bit of added texture. And if you happen to have some gorgeous strawberries in the fridge, add a few of those to your breakfast as well. It's so easy it almost feels like a trick.
You deserve a delicious hot breakfast. Nutella Oatmeal will definitely make your morning awesome.
