    Herbs in Witchcraft - Parsley

Parsley is not just an annoying garnish. It's actually a magical herb full of vibrant prosperity and protection energy that's wonderful to use in witchcraft.

When you think of parsley, you may think of that curly green leaf you have to push to the side of your plate whenever you order anything in a diner. I was definitely one of those people in my younger days, but when I started learning about food and cooking, I discovered it can be an absolute asset to a dish. Flat leaf parsley is full of vibrant, fresh flavor and color. And since it's easy to keep alive on a window sill, I'm never without it.

Parsley is also an unsung powerhouse in the metaphysical realm, as well, bringing all sorts of good energy to spells. Let's dig a little deeper.

    Healing Properties of Parsley

Parsley is high in vitamins C, A, and K, as well as iron and folic acid, so it will be full of amazing health benefits. Medicinally, it is most commonly used as a diuretic to help with things like urinary tract infections and kidney stones. Drinking parsley tea can help you flush out your system.

Perhaps there was a time when parsley showed up on every plate because it actually aids in digestion. It can help with bloating, constipation, and gas and may also help to stimulate your appetite.

Large doses of parsley can stimulate uterine contractions, so if your period is late, it's very helpful. If you're pregnant, though, definitely be cautious of too much of this herb.

Historically, parsley poultices were used for things like eczema, insect bites, and dandruff.

These are just some suggestions based on my research, but I am not a health professional. Always consult your doctor before beginning an herbal remedy as herbs are powerful medicine.

    Magical & Spiritual Properties Parsley

In the Victorian language of flowers, parsley was used to denote knowledge. It's also tied to the astrological signs of Gemini and Leo and the planet Mercury. It carries the energy of power, strength, passion, purification, and prosperity.

    Witchcraft Uses

Create a crown of victory to celebrate your success just like the ancient Greeks.

Add an infusion of parsley leaves and root to your bath for energetic cleansing. DO NOT perform this spell if you are pregnant.

Sprinkle chopped parsley over your food (can we say garnish) to protect yourself from low-level spirits.

Wear a sprig of parsley for travel protection.

Now that we know the awesome power of this herb, I just want to add it to even more dishes. Not only can it bring wisdom, protection, purification, and prosperity, it also tastes really lovely. So next time you're garnishing with this fresh green herb, be intentional about the energy you'd like to call in and share with the people you're cooking for.

Parsley isn't necessarily a main ingredient, but here are a few dishes that highlight this lovely herb.

    • Pizza Rustica
    • Garlic Herb Bread
    • Lemon Garlic Pasta
    • Italian Panissa Rice & Beans
    • Garlic & Herb Focaccia Bread
    • Red Bean Salad
    • Crunchy Lemon Chicken
    • Spinach & Cheese Baked Eggs
    • Bacon Parmesan Cheese Ball
    • Herbed Biscuits & Creamy Sausage Gravy

Now that you have a better idea of the magic of parsley, maybe you'll be more excited to grow it, use it, and eat it. Be sure to get in touch in Instagram to show me how you're using parsley in your practice.
