This Sesame Turmeric Dip is going to become your summer favorite when it's too hot to cook. Whether you dip pita bread, tortilla chips, or crunchy veggies, you're gonna love this flavorful cold dip.

    Sesame Turmeric Dip with text

We so rarely get sun in Scotland that it's hard to stay inside on those few beautiful, sunny days. For me, that includes the time it takes to make and eat dinner. I'm always looking for simple things I can take outside to eat in the sunshine. I want them to be quick and easy, but also ridiculously delicious. And the less they heat up my non-air conditioned house, the better.

This is why I love things like dips and cheese boards, and antipasti. It requires very little effort on my part, and the reward is absolutly delicious. Plus, I get to just relax and enjoy the sunshine. This is high vibe dining at its finest, kids. It all feels very 9 of Pentacles to me.

What makes Sesame Turmeric Dip so awesome?

I think this Sesame Turmeric Dip might be my go to this summer. It's way more delicious than I expected. A simple combination of cream cheese, creme fraiche, and tahini form the base which is deeply savoury but still light and fresh. But the real flavor punch comes from the sesame and turmeric-infused oil that gets drizzled over the top. It's hard to describe, but I just couldn't stop eating it.

This is awesome served with warm flatbread, but I'm sure it would also be good with chips (aka crisps) of all varieties, as well as crunchy bread. I think bell pepper would be extra awesome. One note of warning, the turmeric oil can be a bit drippy, and it will definitely stain any surface it falls on if you don't wipe it up straight away. Another great excuse to eat outside.

    Magical Properties of Sesame Seeds

Sesame seeds as well as tahini, which is sesame seed paste, carry fire energy and are tied to the planet Mars. Use these tiny seeds in spells for abundance and passion. As they're so tiny, they fit easily in spell jars. Call on their energy when you want to transform something small into something powerful. Ingredients

Here's everything you'll need to make this dip. The full details are in the recipe card below.

    • Cream cheese - at room temperature is ideal, but not crucial
    • Creme fraiche - you could also use sour cream, but I like the thickness of creme fraiche here.
    • Tahini
    • Salt and pepper - if you have some nice flaky sea salt, you can sprinkle some of that on at the end
    • Olive oil - use the good stuff if you've got it
    • Sesame seeds
    • Turmeric

Tips for making this Sesame Turmeric Dip

This dip is so simple to make. You'll add your cream cheese, creme fraiche, and tahini to a food processor and give it a spin until everything is smooth and creamy. Taste for seasoning and add salt and pepper as you like.

Then in a small saucepan, you'll heat up your oil and sesame seeds for just a few minutes until the seeds are toasty and fragrant. Your nose is the best indicator that they're ready. Then take them off the heat and stir in the turmeric. Set that aside to cool just a bit while you get ready to serve your dip.

The best way to serve this is in a wide, shallow bowl so that the cream cheese layer isn't too deep. Spread it out and make some nice little swoops and swirls in the dip to give the oil some places to pool up. Then just pour your yellow oil and sesame seeds over this, letting it flow into all those little dips and valleys. Then start dipping to your heart's content.

What should I dip into this Sesame Turmeric Dip?

I love warm pita bread, but crunchy things like tortilla chips or potato chips could also be awesome. If you're more of a raw veg fan, carrots or bell peppers would be awesome.

    Ingredients

    Scale
    • 225 grams (8 ounces) cream cheese, room temperature
    • 185 grams (¾ cup) creme fraiche or sour cream
    • 60 grams (¼ cup) tahini
    • Salt and pepper, to taste
    • 60 ml (¼ cup) olive oil
    • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
    • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
    • Pinch of flaky sea salt

    Instructions

    1. Add the cream cheese, creme fraiche, and tahini to a food processor and blitz until smooth and creamy. Taste for seasoning and add salt and pepper to your liking.
    2. In a small saucepan, heat the olive oil and sesame seeds over medium heat, swirling occasionally, until the sesame seeds are toasted. They will begin to brown and smell nutty.
    3. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the turmeric.
    4. Transfer your cream cheese mixture to a shallow dish, spreading it evenly, then pour over the sesame turmeric oil. Sprinkle on some flaky sea salt and serve with warm pita bread.
