Sourdough French Toast is a delicious way to enjoy your artesinal loaf whether it's freshly baked or a few days old. Top it with your favorite jam or syrup for a sweet breakfast in no time.
Kitchen witchcraft is all about making the mundane magical. We have to eat several times a day, every single day. It can sometimes feel like unceasing drudgery. And even with modern conveniences like food delivery apps, you still have to go through the headache of deciding what to have for dinner. Magick allows us to reclaim this process as sacred and imbue everything we eat with purpose and gratitude.
The beauty is that it doesn't actually have to make things more complicated, either. Yes, you could spend time meditating, cleansing, and charging all your tools before every meal. You could give time over to contemplating each ingedient and holding it mindfully, thanking it for its service before stirring it into your dish in a specific direction. But you don't have to. You could just bring more awareness to your cooking if that's all you have energy for. You could allow everything else to fall away as you transform simple ingredients into delicious food. It's up to you.
What makes Sourdough French Toast so awesome?
This Sourdough French Toast is that familiar breakfast favorite that you love with a slightly more sophisticated flavor and texture. It takes something simple and elevates it into something beautiful. The chewy sourdough bread makes it more substantial while the slight tang adds a pop of acid that brightens everything up. This is a great way to use up a fancy loaf of bread the morning after.
I like to top this with jam or syrup with a sprinkle of ground cinnamon, but you can go wild. Use your favorite fruit, chocolate spread or Biscoff, honey, whatever makes you happy. You could also make this savoury if that's more your jam by omitting the vanilla extract and cinnamon from the dipping mixture and adding a pinch of salt. Then spread some ketchup on top and enjoy.
Make it magical
Eggs are heavily protective, and bread is deeply grounding, but I think the best way to bring magic into a simple dish like this is with your toppings. Choose fruit, jam, syrups, or spices that correspond with your intention. Add cherry jam and a dash of cinnamon for a bit of romance. Maple syrup for prosperity. Fresh berries for fertility and abundance. Get creative.

Tips for making Sourdough French Toast
French toast is ideal for bread that's a bit past it's prime. I like to keep the slices relatively thin for this so you don't have to saw through a super thick crust while you're eating. The more stale your bread is, the longer you can let it soak in the egg mixture.
I prefer to mix up my egg mixture in a wide, flat container like an 8x8 inch baking pan, or even a plate. This allows the slices of bread to rest flat in the dish so that they can soak up the egg evenly. To my sweet French toast, I like to add a bit of vanilla extract and a pinch of cinnamon, but you can add whatever flavors suit your palate.
Finally, you want to make sure your pan is properly preheated and lightly oiled before adding in your French toast slices. Keep the heat relatively low so that you don't burn your eggs. Cook each piece about two minutes per side. Serve with your favorite toppings.
If you're ready for something just a bit different at breakfast, this Sourdough French Toast is just want you need. It's gonna be awesome.
