Did you know you can use tarot for self-care? These cards are a powerful tool for self-discovery and empowerment that will help you feel absolutely awesome.
Self-care is not about simply pampering yourself. Sure, everyone loves a relaxing bubble bath or a trip to the spa, but true self-care is about the daily habits, practices, and mindset that you create to be your most often self whenever possible. It's about understanding your needs and recognizing your boundaries. It's about learning to nurture yourself and give yourself grace. And tarot cards can help with all of that.
How can you use tarot for self-care?
Tarot cards represent archetypal energies and experiences that are common to all people across generations and cultures. They seem to know us so well because they are designed to tap into our subconscious and help us understand ourselves on a much deeper level.
So whether you have a daily tarot practice or you're choosing to meditate with or journal on the energy of specific cards, tarot can help you learn how to be your most awesome self.
Meditating & Journaling with Tarot Cards
To achieve personal growth, you need to understand yourself deeply. That means you need to examine the stories you tell yourself, the motivations for your actions and habits, and the underlying emotional issues that lead you to your choices.
Self-reflection is an important part of any personal care routine. I like a combination of meditation and journaling. So I give myself some time to focus, and then I let myself write about anything that came up. You could also flip the order and journal first, then meditate to settle your mind.
It's easy to incorporate tarot into this by selecting one card you want to focus on. So if you know an energy you'd like to cultivate in yourself, you can hold that card while meditating, and use it's imagery to help you journal on how you already have or would like to create the qualities of that card within yourself. So whether you're striving to be more like the tarot Fool or to embrace the energy of The World, the lessons in individual cards can help you think problems over in a whole new way.

Pulling a card a day
Pulling a single card from my tarot deck in the morning has become an important daily ritual. So rather than intentionally selecting a card to reflect on, I let the Universe guide me toward what I might need to consider on any given day. Sometimes it's relevant, sometimes it doesn't make sense until later, but it always helps me to think about what I need. That's an awesome way to start a day.
I use different tarot decks from day to day, and sometimes I use oracle decks as well. What I love about this practice is that it helps me focus on what I need for myself. I used to wake up and immediately start checking emails and notifications, giving away my energy with no regard for my own self-care. Now, I start my mornings by connecting with my magic and checking in with my higher self. The card guides me to consider how I might need to shift my focus or give myself grace. It's so important to me now that I even do it when I'm traveling. I'd never skip this one moment for myself each day.
Deeper tarot readings
When you need a whole new perspective on a situation in your life, it's time for a deeper tarot reading. For me, tarot readings are not about predicting the future. They're about connecting with my higher self and the Universe to empower me to make wiser decisions about the future I want to create. The cards help me see my life from a different perspective or highlight lessons or energies that I need to consider to help me move forward.
Here are a few questions you can ask your cards to help you take better care of yourself.
- How can I honor my needs?
- What boundaries do I need to set?
- What do I need to release in order to move forward?
- How can I offer myself grace and compassion?
- What does my body need from me?
- What action would be for my highest good?
Do you need tarot guidance?
As a tarot lover, I use the cards to help maintain my self-care on a regular basis. But sometimes when you're feeling stuck, it can be really helpful to receive guidance from a professional tarot reader. They can give you a unique perspective on the cards and ask questions you may not have considered. Because your tarot reader doesn't have the same emotional investment, they might be able to see into some of your blind spots.
It's really important to find a tarot reader that you have a connection with. Look for someone with similar values, beliefs, and temperament. Look for someone who offers the type of reading you're looking for. Check their social media and watch videos of their readings to make sure you vibe with them. Most tarot readers are empathetic and compassionate individuals who want what's best for you. Sometimes there's just a personal preference that will help you get the best reading. But there are also some disreputable practitioners out there, so be wary of any claims that seem too good to be true. Do your research and trust your gut.
If you'd like to receive a tarot reading from me, you can check out my offerings at Sagittarian Tarot. I offer intuitive tarot guidance with a custom spread of questions to help empower you to create a life you love.
