    Triple Hot Chocolate with text

Three has always been a sacred number. It's so obvious that there's even a School House Rock song about it. In religion, mythology, and mysticism, humans have found power in this number, and of course, witches are no different. From the maiden, mother, and the crone to mind, body, and spirit, witch's work in threes to add power to their spells. And of course, nine is extra powerful, combining three by three to magnify the energy.

I like to use the power of three in my kitchen witchcraft as well, whether it's combining three different ingredients, adding three drops or dashes, or stirring in a certain direction three times. Some ingredients have their own trinity, and chocolate is one of them. At least in its modern day form, chocolate is generally found in white, milk, and dark chocolate versions, and this recipe makes use of that delicious triad.

What makes Triple Hot Chocolate so awesome?

This Triple Hot Chocolate combines all three types of chocolate for an extra rich hot drink that's just the right balance of sweet and bitter. Use chocolate chips for ease or chopped chocolate if that's what you've got. You'll make it all in one saucepan, so it's easy to scale up or down depending on how many people you want to serve.

You could skip the whipped cream made with vanilla sugar, but if you're already going to the trouble of making hot chocolate from scratch, you might as well go all out. If this is being made strictly for adults, you could also spike it with some Kahlua, Franglico, Bailey's or other liqueur for an extra layer of warmth and flavor. Just add it to your cup after you've poured some for the kids. This is going to make everyone feel super cozy.

    Magical Properties of Chocolate

All types of chocolate hold the energy of prosperity, positivity, happiness, and love. They're also all said to be ruled by Mars but carry feminine or receptive energy. But each type of chocolate has some of its own unique properties. While there are some overlaps in the Venn diagram of magical correspondences, you can make subtle distinctions to hone your spells as needed.

White chocolate is tied to the element of water, the planet Venus, and the signs of Aquarius and Pisces. It's also associated with the heart chakra. With its serious sweetness, it carries the energy of friendship, self-love, and fun.

Milk chocolate is less intense than dark. It's ruled by the elements of water and earth, the planets Venus and Earth, the signs of Cancer and Libra, and the heart chakra. Use milk chocolate to call in friendship, self-love, nurturing, love, balance, fun. Use it to raise emotional energy.

Dark chocolate has the most potency. It's elements are earth and fire, and it corresponds to the Earth and the Moon, the signs of Scorpio, Virgo, and Aries, and the heart and sacral chakras. It can be used in spells for love, romance, grounding, prosperity, and turning enemies into friends.

Tips for making Triple Hot Chocolate

If you're gonna make the whipped cream, I'd start there. Add your cold cream and a spoonful of vanilla sugar to a mixing bowl, and whisk until you've got stiff peaks, aka it holds its shape. Stash this in the fridge until you're ready for it.

All you need to do for this is heat some milk in a small saucepan until you start to see bubbles forming around the edge. Turn the heat down as low as it will go, then add your chocolate, and whisk gently until its melted and smooth. Pour your hot chocolate into your mug and add a generous dollop of whipped cream. If you have any chocolate chips left, sprinkle some on top for extra awesomeness.
