Are you curious about what to eat for the pink moon in April? From early spring vegetables to Scorpio ruled foods like dark chocolate, it's a deeply delicious month. I've got 100 awesome recipes that you'll love to indulge in.
The pink moon sees us safely ensconced in Springtime. As the April full moon, it will always fall after moon Spring Equinox. It's named for the pink ground phlox that carpeted the earth in pretty pink flowers. It's a time to give thanks for the fertility of the earth and focus on the beauty in your life.
It's also a time when our ancestors would have had more fresh foods available. From spring onions to early tender greens and new potatoes, they no longer had to rely on their winter stores to see them through.
Of course, as modern witches with freezers and international shipping lanes, we can get whatever we want whenever we want. But the more locally and seasonally we eat, the gentler it is on the Earth. Do what works for you.
Spiritual Meaning of the Pink Moon
The pink moon always feels like a moment to relax. We survived another winter and the early signs of life at Ostara have had some time to truly flourish. We can literally stop and smell the flowers and give thanks for all the beautiful things in our life. Sometimes that beauty can be hard to see, so this full moon can shine a light in dark places to help you see where your gifts lie.
This year, the pink moon falls in Scorpio, so you can also use its deep, still waters for healing and introspection. Scorpio energy can be intense, but when you're shining a laser beam of focus onto what is blooming in your life, the rewards can be massive. If it all feels like a lot, be kind to yourself and let the feelings wash over you.
What's in season at the Pink Moon
In April, we've got some of our wintery produce still going strong, but we also start to see new vegetables to make spring salads. Fresh fruits are still scarce, at least here in Scotland, but all the flowering trees are evidence of an abundant harvest later in the year. So we still rely on citrus and imported tropical fruits. Lamb is also in season in spring.
Further south, you may have some berries and fresh herbs available. It all depends on the climate of where you live. The best thing to do is visit your local farmer's market and see what's available right now. Here's a rough idea of what you might find.
- Broccoli
- Cabbage
- Carrots
- Cauliflower
- Green beans
- Lettuce
- Onions
- Peas
- New potatoes and main crop potatoes
- Spinach
- Spring onions
- Sweet potato
- Zucchini
- Bananas
- Blackberries
- Lemons
- Oranges
- Strawberries
- Basil
- Chives
- Dill
- Mint
- Oregano
- Rosemary
- Sage
- Thyme
Scorpio foods
Depending on when it lands in April, the pink moon can fall in either Libra or Scorpio, but this year, it's bringing us the intensity of Scorpio to help with our deep healing after the long winter.
Scorpio is a water sign that was traditionally ruled by Mars, so it has a touch of fire energy to it. Scorpio foods can therefore be both sweet and intense with a bit of an edge. Here are a few examples to call in this energy in your kitchen.
- Basil
- Dark chocolate
- Onions
- Paprika
- Pomegranate
- Strawberries
Recipes for the Pink Moon
It's about time we started to work some fresher foods into our diets. Of course, we're not quite into full on abundance yet, as many fruits and vegetables are still growing, but there are definitely more options. April can be a fickle month, though, so you need a combination of things to keep you warm and things to celebrate the sun. Also, feel free to eat anything pink. When else can you say the Universe gave you permission?
