What to Eat for the Worm Moon

The Worm Moon arrives in March around the Spring Equinox. New life is beginning to appear, which means new eating possibilities are also available. Get ready for something delicious.

What to Eat for the Worm Moon with leek & potato soup

While the weather in March can still be hugely unpredictable, there's no doubt that Spring is on its way. The equinox marks the moment of equal day and night, with days growing slowly longer until we each the summer solstice.

If you look around, you'll easily see evidence of life returning as well. From buds on trees, to bright and bold daffodils blooming everywhere, nature is beginning to lose her greyness. We still have a ways to go before we reach the overwhelming abundance of summer, but the harsh days of winter are coming to an end.

Spiritual Meaning of the Worm Moon

The name comes from emergence of all sorts of creepy crawly critters at this time of year. From earthworms to tree weevils to hibernating insects and amphibians that are beginning to stir and make their way to the surface, we start to see evidence of what was waiting underground.

So the lesson with this full moon seems clear. What has been growing beneath the surface of your heart? What creations and ideas are ready to emerge from your own mind? Use the energy of this full moon to shine a light on what you want to bring into the world, and begin to take action to make it happen.

This full moon is in Libra, reminding us of the balance of the equinox as well. Use the waning moon to clear away any barriers or limitations that might stop you from pursuing your creative potential. Only bring what will serve you into the new season.

As the days grow longer and the sunlight becomes more direct, we'll start to see a few early spring plants emerging. The farther south you live, the more you'll have available to you. Check your local farmer's market or CSA to see what's growing in your area.
